The East Coast bluegrass community lost one of it?s finest on Tuesday April 21st. 2009, when Craig Simm lost his long battle with cancer.

SIMM, Craig Aulay

41, Beaver Bank, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, in the Centennial Building, QEII, Halifax. Born in Windsor, he was a son of Wendell and Carole (Barkhouse) Simm, West Gore. He played in bluegrass bands since he was 14 years old and had been a member of the "A New Shade of Blue" bluegrass band since 1990. Craig and the band had won numerous awards over the years. Craig attained the Master's Award in Bass Player of the Year category. They played at various festivals in Canada and Northeastern United States. He is survived by his wife, Janet (Barron); brothers, Derrick (Janet), Hammonds Plains; Dean (Tracy), West Gore; several nieces and a nephew. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today, with a celebration of Craig's life, 2 p.m., Friday, April 24, both in Church of Christ Disciples, West Gore, Rev. Angus R. MacDonald officiating. Interment in West Gore Cemetery. Donations in memory of Craig may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
