The Late Gov. Vanier

All living now in our fair land,
Will with sorrow, bow their head.
To honor in memory, a valiant man,
For unfailing service; Now is dead.

With the best that man can offer,
Courage, willingly with life.
Took his stand, with many thousands,
To stem aggression, in world wide strife.

And the record of his regiment,
With undying honor, it will stay.
For in every battle, they did face,
The valiant "Van Doos" won the day.

Wounded often, when in conflict,
With given strength, he did survive.
The courage called for was unending,
All are thankful, he came home alive.

For service given he was honored,
And in lasting memory, is his name.
Immortal too, in Canada's history,
An everlasting, brilliant flame.

Always in memory, we will honor,
General Vanier, to the last.
Bowing all, in heart-felt sorrow,
His name in memory, like gold will last.

G. Stuart Grimmer.
