Assault

Joseph Daley a somewhat noted Restigouche personality has been arrested on a serious charge and is now in the lockup.

Monday morning about 1;30 Chief Crawford was notified that a man had been found near the ICR depot unconscious and severely bruised. He immediately went to the depot where the man who gave his name as Andrew Duthie of Deluthe, was being attended to, and upon regaining consciousness stated that a man had assaulted him and taken his money. He gave an accurate description of the robber, and Daley was at once suspected. Chief Crawford, with Officer Brown, went immediately on the case, and followed the suspect, who had immediately left town by way of the I.C.R. to Eel River where trace of him was found. He was later arrested in the woods near Charlo and brought back to Campbellton. Duthie identified the man and upon being searched the money was found rolled up in his drawer leg. The prisoner will appear before Judge Matheson Wednesday.

Chief Crawford handled the case promptly and is to be complimented in making the arrest in such short time.

(in the next issue there is a correction which says the assault had taken place on Patterson St. not near the ICR station.)
