Citizens were shocked and grieved when on Sunday the news of the death of Mr. James E. Kelly was announced.

Mr. Kelly was early Saturday morning taken seriously ill and medical aid was summoned, but nothing could be done for him and he passed away Sunday morning. Heart trouble was the cause of his death. He was sixty three years of age. A widow and five sons, four at home and two daughters, one at home, survive.

Mr. James E. Kelly was born at Shediac, where for a number of years he carried on business. Nineteen years ago he removed to Campbellton where he has conducted a general blacksmithing business and sold coal. He was an enterprising citizen and worked to promote the advancement of the town. In 1897 he was elected to the council board with Ed Sullivan from Ward 3, serving three years, the latter year Geo. G. McKenzie being his colleague.

Recently Mr. Kelly commenced the erection of a fine hotel on his premises near the I.C.R. depot but unfortunately this together with his blacksmith shop and stables was destroyed by a fire a short time ago.

Genial and affable he made numerous friends all through the country that will regret to learn of his sudden demise and the community sympathizes with the bereaved family.

The funeral took place at 2.30 this afternoon from deceased's late home, Water Street, and was very largely attended, interment being in the Rural Cemetery. The Orange body, of which Mr. Kelly was a respected member, attended in a body in regalia. The services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Thomas.

At the grave the impressive service of the Orange association was performed, County Master Geo. H. Read, acting as W.M. The pallbearers were Jas. A. McDonald, R. Crawford, John Morton, R. L. Duncan, Jas., McRae, Charles Anderson, all members of the Association.
