Two Sentenced For Failing To Work

Two Campbellton men, Wilfred Vick and J. J. Owen Shearer, were sentenced to pay fines of $10 and $20 respectively when they appeared before Magistrate Troy here yesterday on charges laid by the National Selective Service.

The former was directed to apply for and accept work as a laborer with the Swift Canadian Co. Ltd. at Moncton. He accepted the employment, was provided with transportation by the firm, reported for work and left after three days without informing the Selective Service.

The latter had left the employment of the J. and D.A. Harquail Co. Ltd., here, a designated establishement, without the permission of a Selective Service officer, and failed to report back for work when ordered to do so in writing.

J.E. Hebert, district enforcement officer, appeared on behalf of the National Selective Service.
