The Canada

Campbellton's Wishes said to have been ignored and old boat put on.

The Outlook

The Graphic learns on very good authority that the government has awarded the subsidy for the Campbellton - Gaspe service to the company which has recently purchased the steamer Canada and that this steamer will perform the services this year.

The Canada is an old boat and at present has no first class accommodation for passengers, although the company have promised to construct some and put her in good shape. She is a slow boat, with none of the modern conveniences, and it is said those who know that she is not equipped for the route she is expected to serve.

Campbellton people will regret to learn that the Senlac is not to receive the subsidy but it may be that she will be put on the route independently at least the busy part of the season. Every encouragement should be ? out to the Thompson Company to put this fine steamer on, if only for the tourist season, as the loss of the trade will mean thousands of dollars to Campbellton this season.

We may add that Messrs Reid and ?rcil did all in their power to have the contract go to the Senlac, but the contract is considered a Gaspe expenditure naturally Mr. Lemieux weighed their influence, and we understand that strong pressure was rough to bear from interested party in Gaspe.
